Report on Hepatitis B-Health Campaign

Knowledge session & PHO Committee of H K College of Pharmacy organized a program related to Hepatitis B in which Manish Dhandukia, interacted with all students & staff. He spoke about the main symptoms of Hepatitis B & ways to contract the virus. He also mentioned about different types of Hepatitis like Hepatitis A, which is the mildest form. Hepatitis B, which is the second worst, but can also be controlled. Hepatitis C, which is the most serious one. He told many people that get it are in the 20 to 49 years old age group. He told that there should be minimum intervals between the doses of hepatitis B vaccine. There must be at least 4 weeks between doses #1 and #2, at least 8 weeks between doses #2 and #3, and at least 16 weeks between doses #1 and #3. The final dose in the infant series should not be given earlier than 24 weeks of age. He also mentioned that immunologic memory remains intact for at least 20 years among healthy vaccinated individuals who initiated hepatitis B vaccination >6 months of age. The vaccine confers long-term protection against clinical illness and chronic hepatitis B virus infection. The program was appreciated by all students, teaching & non-teaching staff. Much of the learning took place in interactive manner. They mentioned that it is very good platform for interaction and should be conducted regularly.
